Dealing with interviewers with weak technicals

I think most of us have encountered people (with no finance background) who have gotten a position in IB/PE/VC, but their technical knowledge is not up to the job. They usually don't check their answers and can put the candidate in an awkward situation. An example: an IB interviewer, who didn’t know that COGS increases with Revenue (I wish this was fake) How to deal with these people? Is there any way to ensure yourself a smooth landing?

It’s tough for guys like you, being so intelligent that you’re smarter than the interviewer. I know it’s hard given your serious brain power, just try to be humble in these interviews. Gently correct the interviewer and use the interview as an opportunity to teach them and offer your personal email in case they ever want to contact you for more lessons.

If the revenue is driven by volume then yes COGS scales with it. If price driven it doesn’t though or if it’s a software business. Maybe OP has the smooth brain if he didn’t catch that

Hey thanks for pointing this out, glad to have someone of your IQ on this website, truly thankful.

What would happen if volume stays the same and I just increase the price per unit sold?
