Applying for SA London 2025 in August/September. Need some advice. Want to land a BB/EB/MM in London. I am currently based in Continental Europe (non-London) so need any advice on how to break into IB. Thanks!

Thanks! Bachelors are longer in continental Europe (mine is 6 years as it's a double bachelor) so you have more time to do internships

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some detailed steps and advice to help you improve your CV and increase your chances of landing a Summer Analyst (SA) position in London for 2025:

CV Improvement Tips:

  1. Tailor Your CV for London:

    • Ensure your CV is formatted according to UK standards. This includes clear sections for education, work experience, skills, and extracurricular activities.
    • Highlight any international experience or language skills, as these are valued in London.
  2. Education Section:

    • Clearly state your university, degree, and expected graduation date.
    • Include any relevant coursework, especially if it pertains to finance, economics, or business.
    • Mention any academic honors or scholarships.
  3. Work Experience:

    • Focus on any finance-related internships or jobs. Detail your responsibilities and achievements using action verbs and quantifiable results.
    • If you lack direct IB experience, emphasize transferable skills from other roles, such as analytical skills, teamwork, and leadership.
  4. Skills and Certifications:

    • List relevant skills such as financial modeling, Excel, and any programming languages (e.g., Python, VBA).
    • Include any certifications like CFA Level I, if applicable.
  5. Extracurricular Activities:

    • Highlight leadership roles in finance societies or clubs.
    • Mention any relevant projects or competitions you participated in.

Breaking into IB in London:

  1. Networking:

    • Start networking early. Reach out to alumni from your university who are working in London.
    • Attend virtual and in-person networking events, career fairs, and webinars hosted by banks.
  2. Applications:

    • Apply early. Many banks have rolling applications, so submitting early can increase your chances.
    • Tailor your cover letter for each application, emphasizing why you want to work in London and your unique qualifications.
  3. Interview Preparation:

    • Prepare for common IB interview questions, both technical and behavioral.
    • Practice with mock interviews and get feedback from peers or mentors.
  4. Leverage Online Resources:

    • Utilize WSO’s resources such as resume reviews, mock interviews, and financial modeling courses.
    • Follow the advice from threads like "Advice for London applicants" and "SA 2021 LDN Urgent Help Needed" for specific tips on the London market.

Additional Tips:

  • Cold Emailing: If you don’t have relevant IB experience, consider cold emailing smaller firms or boutiques for unpaid internships to build your resume.
  • Multiple CVs: Create two versions of your CV, one with a graduation date of 2025 and another with 2024, to apply for different opportunities as suggested in the thread "So you didn’t get any spring weeks, here’s what you need to do".

By following these steps and leveraging the resources available on WSO, you can enhance your CV and improve your chances of securing a Summer Analyst position in London. Good luck!

Just graduated and would love to help out. Also, this is just what I would do. For reference, I have landed BB/MF internships and am currently working in a capital markets role right now. Also, keep in mind, this is what I would do for U.S recruiting, not sure about the nuances for Europe.

First lose the long skills and other information section. I would try to include mostly interesting/unique bobbies as well as hard skills or certifications that apply directly to the job. The hobbies should be interesting so they can potentially be a great conversation starter and make you seem like a more interesting candidate. With all the extra space you have, make more bullets for the work experience and leadership experience sections. And please, for the love of god, get rid of shit that's wayyy in the past. Try to have as many things since you started college that you can, if its something that's really impressive from before then it could be an exception.

Also, a quick rule of thumb, imagine your paper has an imaginary line running through the middle of it. Now make sure your bullet points end after that imaginary crease. It'll make your resume look a lot fuller. Also, idk if you removed a lot of information for privacy purposes, but the bullet points seem on the lighter side. Use more industry specific terms to catch eyes and try to quantify your impact/result in each bullet if possible. Also, a dirty little trick is just looking up "'insert internship role' example resume'" and you can probably find some good premade bullets and get an idea of what to write. Not the worst to use a lot of what you find online, but make sure it actually applies to what you did and reword it for sure.

In all, your resume format and set up is pretty shitty I'm ngl. But I've seen worse formatting from underclassmen and your experiences are actually pretty good. I think if you fix up your resume you'll have a great shot for sure. Hope this helps.
