Dicey GPA question
I'm "asking on behalf of a friend" here, since everyone here never believes when people say that anyway.
So the resume was submitted with a certain GPA. Much like a company hides expenses/over emphasizes cash flows, the insiders full well knew that this current semester (this fall) was atrocious. I'm talking going from B+/A- to C grades.
Luckily an offer was given to the holder of the resume with the nice GPA not counting the terrible fall semester. Now of course the grades are out and the GPA has dropped from, hypothetically, a 3.6 to a 3.2.
The question is how one would handle this situation. The company would only know it's wrong when they checked the transcript and verified it with the resume. I'm wondering at a BB if they actually check or just look at the transcript to make sure he/she goes to the school he/she claims. Now, assuming they do indeed check and will run into this problem, would it be better to send a note beforehand explaining the situation with the usual bullshit that "Oh this semester was an anomaly (which indeed it was) and I will bring it up in the future..." "I wanted to be transparent and notify you of the change so as to not seem slimy..."
Again, the offer was already given so the person is just worried about getting it rescinded. The above solution would be fairer but if they don't have a hard check it would just be bringing up a problem unnecessarily. They've already extended an offer a few points in GPA doesn't change the fact they think the candidate would be a great SA. This is at Yale, the school on my profile.
So: Tell them ahead of time or no? Let's say you don't tell them ahead of time and they find out, is there a high risk of rescinded? You can always explain the situation after they find out but then I guess it looks worse.

You really typed up 6 paragraphs of bull shit to ask: "If I had drastically lower grades in the recent fall, but used an older transcript, will I get in trouble? What should I do?"
It also depends on when you applied, which in your six paragraphs, you failed to clarify. The GPA on the resume should reflect the GPA at the time of the application's submission. Was the app submitted prior to the grades coming out?
Yes it was submitted before the grades came out. Sorry if that seemed unclear, what I meant was that at the time of the submission we had an idea that the grades would be bad
