do employers look at resumes before the deadline?
For BB/boutique banks, Our school's resume drop deadline is January 10th. Do they look at the resumes before then? I made a mistake on my resume ( I know, dumb) but my career center gives us a choice to withdraw the application and submit again. but if they already looked at it, it would be no use. right?
They probably haven't looked at it yet, but I've heard (not certain) that in some cases when you submit it gets sent directly to the firm. So by withdrawing, you can resubmit, but they will see both old and new applications. In this case it's better not to withdraw, because at least there's a chance they might not notice the typo or whatever and give you an interview, instead of you calling attention to it by submitting twice.
Good luck...happened to me once too. Hopefully it wasn't too great a firm!
My understanding is that the resume drop systems are -typically- done via batch processing. What this means is that the company doesn't even have access to them until January 10th. On January 10th, they get the whole set of resumes and work from there. The system is typically very automated so you could potentially get away with submitting an update resume.
That said -- I agree with monkejunkie, I doubt it's worth the risk of calling out the error by resubmitting. Just role with it, what's done is done.
What about deadlines of online applications? Are they all done on a rolling basis, or is there usually no advantage to applying before the deadline?
Oh, I asked the same question last week. Turns out banks are only able to collect resumes after the resume drop period closed, so any changes you make before the deadline will most likely be reflected. I say most likely, since there are generally two types of processes that you may go through. In most cases, submitted documents will be available for review only after the deadline, but that's not the case with some job postings that allow employers to look at them as they come in.
I wouldn't expect BB firms to have employers look at them before the deadline. They have better things to do, right?
why don't you ask your school how the process works? I had a similar situation, and it turns out the resumes were only available by the bank after the resume drop period ended.
