Typically no, but it's hard to determine what some random VP will throw at you because he feels like it, so worth spending a short amount of time brushing up on it

More important to 1) be aware of recent trends and deals in the space, especially deals the firm has worked on and 2) HAVE GOOD QUESTIONS. Not expecting you to be Socrates but I swear some of the people on these calls have done zero prep and are trying to think of questions on the spot

Yes would definitely recommend - at least a month prior, maybe 6-8 weeks if you have the time. You're aiming to talk to 10+ juniors in each group and once people are actually told to start networking, it becomes very hard to get on people's calendars. Circle back and get on catchup calls when you can/at minimum, express interest closer to the actual deadline, of course.

The poorly-kept secret about group placement is a lot of the top groups are already full way before the process kicks off. If a group tends to pull from a small group of target schools, it's likely their spots are already earmarked for the interns hired from those schools.

Think about it like frat/sorority rush - it's kind of a shitshow, don't take it personally if your favorite group cuts you, and if absolutely no one from a specific group is responding to you, it probably means their spots are spoken for

Good luck!

Okay, thank you for your detailed responses btw - I really appreciate it. Would you say right now is too early to be networking then? I think group recruitment starts after the new year?
