Do i tell my staffer I might have COVID?
Hey guys, title pretty much says it all and any advice is genuinely appreciated. I started my virtual internship last week and am finding out what deals I'm staffed on this week. Yesterday afternoon, I started experiencing COVID symptoms that got progressively worse throughout the night. I've had a couple of friends who have had it though I haven't interacted with them physically and have practiced social distancing/wearing a mask since the outbreak began. Their experience with it was pretty much losing smell/taste for about a week, but other than that, they were pretty much fine. I, on the other hand, have been running a fever in the low 100s since last night, got maybe 4 hours of sleep last night, dry heaved, and passed out in my bathroom for an unspecified amount of time sometime early this morning. Since it's a virtual internship, I know I'm not at risk of spreading anything since I'm locked away in my room, but I fear not getting staffed on some of the better deals my group has been considering putting me on. Conversely, I know I'm not at 100% and don't want to slow my deal team down. What would you do in my situation?
My current inclination is that I shouldn't say anything about it until I know for certain I have it, and I plan on getting tested at a local clinic today during my lunch break. The results should take between 36 and 48 hours to arrive back though, and I feel like complete dog shit. Seriously guys - take it from me - this thing is no joke, even if you're a 20-year old kid. Stay safe out there
Look even if you don't have COVID, you sound sick enough to the point where I think you should ask for some time off. At the end of the day it's your call. Knowing myself, I would try to tough it out up unless I knew that I was jeopardizing my team. Hope you get better.
How do you think it got transmitted to you? Was someone around you infected?
I would just be honest and tell the staffer you've been quite ill the past couple days and are being tested for covid and will let him know the results. I'm sure he/she can read between the lines and understand you will get a lighter staffing.
If you're that sick that you're passing out, it's prob in your best interest to say something otherwise you're just gonna piss of the rest of your team and it's better to say something now than to leave until after you're staffed and they have to move everything around again.
I would suggest email him the day of or before you get tested, almost as an FYI and just say you’ve been not feeling well the last few days and are going to step out for a few hours to get tested. Hopefully he should get the message from that alone and lighten up the staffings / wait to staff you until the next week.
It’s tough because things are virtual and there is limited work, and as much as some might say otherwise, there is a sort of “tough if out” culture in banking, or at least at most firms, which is irrational, but it is what it is.
Yeah, of course. Sooner better than later. Because you can have dangerous complications. Covid is not a very dangerous virus but it can cause complications to any organ of the body. And this is proved by the doctors. I'm very careful and I'm doing all the possible https://arcreef.com/product/hand-sanitizer/</a">to protect me by the hand sanitizers, masks and gloves. Because I don't want to stay 14 days at the hospital.
