Do you sometimes feel disappointed to see certain people end up in IB and arguably not fulfilling potential?

Late night working away so penning some random thoughts. Also I myself am in IB so no hate on the profession.

In school I always got good grades and l played a sport in college, partied fair bit. So like to think myself as a well rounded individual. I would say I have a very good work ethic too. But one thing I’m definitely not is that I’m not a genius.

During college I saw several people who I would certify as geniuses. Their majors were like neuroscience, physics, philosophy etc. But a few of them ended up in finance as well. Again no hate there but I feel these people doing something as mundane as investment banking is a disservice to themselves and arguably society too…

I guess one could argue that if they stay in IB or reach PE, either way, they might create more deal flow than the average MD/Partner, helping human innovation in the long run.

However, that’s so difficult to quantify haha.
