Does adding "Incoming.." on Linkedin help with group placement?

I've heard various things but just want to check if analysts to MDs scope out incoming summer analysts ahead of time. I hate the idea of using "incoming" on Linkedin but I also don't want to miss out if top groups are reaching out to competitive incoming summer analysts right now.

It is by far the lamest trend to hit LinkedIn in recent years. I cringe every time I see some tony tough nuts do it. With that, and I can’t stress how try hard it is, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say it helps to some degree with buyside recruiting cause holy hell has that gotten so early and also helps with scoping out your future only friends (cause you’ll no longer have a life for 2 years).

i think people do it in order to connect with people at the firm they're working at, when i added that to my profile, a lot of other summer analysts in the program connected with me and so did people at the firm

Not as far as I’m aware. My BB sent LinkedIn guidelines to incoming analysts instructing us specifically to add it to our profile for “brand visibility” aka getting our bank’s name out there. It’s also helpful for connecting with other people you’ll work closely with next year. Not the cringefest it’s chalked up to be.

Interested in code, market mechanics, and trading strategies!

Don't do it. You don't gain anything and you look inexperienced. Also don't post "So grateful to have accepted a full-time offer at blah blah blah...look at me".

Act like you have been here before. Speak softly and carry a big stick. The quality of your work / drive will speak a lot louder than "Incoming analyst at...."

Once you start, then your title should be "Analyst / Intern at..."

My firm (and plenty of other companies) sent out emails specifically telling us to put "Incoming IB Analyst/Summer Analyst" on LinkedIn.
