Does adding "Incoming.." on Linkedin help with group placement?
I've heard various things but just want to check if analysts to MDs scope out incoming summer analysts ahead of time. I hate the idea of using "incoming" on Linkedin but I also don't want to miss out if top groups are reaching out to competitive incoming summer analysts right now.
It is by far the lamest trend to hit LinkedIn in recent years. I cringe every time I see some tony tough nuts do it. With that, and I can’t stress how try hard it is, I’d be remiss if I didn’t say it helps to some degree with buyside recruiting cause holy hell has that gotten so early and also helps with scoping out your future only friends (cause you’ll no longer have a life for 2 years).
i think people do it in order to connect with people at the firm they're working at, when i added that to my profile, a lot of other summer analysts in the program connected with me and so did people at the firm
Yes my last point “future only friends” at least for IB
Chill the fuck out
Does adding "Prospect" on WSO help with recruiting?
Not as far as I’m aware. My BB sent LinkedIn guidelines to incoming analysts instructing us specifically to add it to our profile for “brand visibility” aka getting our bank’s name out there. It’s also helpful for connecting with other people you’ll work closely with next year. Not the cringefest it’s chalked up to be.
If you think about it, a few folks will say its cringey and make it seem awful but what's your downside?
What could possibly go against you? Nothing. Everyone does it at this point. If anything, you'll get move visibility because of it. Just go for it and ignore the overly negative comments. Its not a big deal.
What if the firm rescinds offer?
wtf lol why would they do that
You'd reach out to people via email in 99% of the cases for group placement so not really. You could flex it in your email signature but at this point you are an idiot because if you are taking part into group placement you obviously are an incoming SA
Don't do it. You don't gain anything and you look inexperienced. Also don't post "So grateful to have accepted a full-time offer at blah blah blah...look at me".
Act like you have been here before. Speak softly and carry a big stick. The quality of your work / drive will speak a lot louder than "Incoming analyst at...."
Once you start, then your title should be "Analyst / Intern at..."
My firm (and plenty of other companies) sent out emails specifically telling us to put "Incoming IB Analyst/Summer Analyst" on LinkedIn.
So you would put anything they told you to on LinkedIN?
This, someone who gets it. +1SB
I was told to at a minimum to post that you have accepted an offer. Purely for visibility and building a network at your new firm.
Also, you earned it and are proud of it. I wouldn't write a novel, but I see nothing wrong in sharing a job update on a professional social platform. Congrats!
What form is this you are anonymous so it doesn’t hurt to reveal it
