Does HR look you up on Google?
You guys know whether HR or MD's or anyone really tend to look candidates' names up on search engines?

God, my grammar is horrible...
It's really a case by case basis, but if I had to bet I'd say yes.
yup! have you tried having a transaction with a stranger before?
rest assured they will.
most definitely. linkedin views quadrupled the week I sent in applications.
Most often yes
Yep, they do even check Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Yes... HR, business people, potential clients / employers, B-school admissions officers, potential girlfriends, current girlfriends, ex-girlfriends, etc... All of these people are more likely than not to google you before making a decision.
Do you Google your informational interviewer before your networking session? Of course. Thus, it is a two-way street and everyone is fair game. Rule of thumb is that if there is something you don't want exposed, it is best that you don't make the information public.
When I interview people (whether it has been for formal or informal interviews), I always do a brief background check on the person. I don't do it necessarily as a sneaky way to eliminate anyone or go looking weaknesses, but often find it interesting to see what the person looks / dresses like on Facebook or what interests he/she has on LinkedIn. For example, I perform a lot better as an interviewer when I have a good idea of what the other person looks like and what I perceive him/her to be like.
Interesting fact - when I was younger, my friends and I would also screen not just interview candidates but also internal and external female contacts just to see if they are hot or not. Finance is a crazy world. I have seen a few women get invited in or responded to a lot more positively if they are attractive. Alas, I suppose this is the same with real life.
Anyone that still doesn't have a private Facebook is retarded.
I hope so, I've got my swimsuit modelling photos up.
I thought the same, so I got myself removed from any links from my universities to prevent anything undue clouding their judgement. Who knows what a few links may uncover?
But why would anyone really leave LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook, etc open for public viewing? You're inviting trouble.
