Do you have to use the cookie cutter boring resume or can i switch it up. seems really repetitive to me

Why would you risk? I'd say go for networking, and do not revamp your resume. Chances are your resume do stand out and then goes viral, a thing you would not want to happen.
Stick with the standard resume design and have your resume passed along by bankers or just make sure they vouch for you.
