I worked at a fintech company not too long ago and around the time that I left, I found out one of the "directors" (only had one person under them, seemed like circle jerk title) lied about getting their degree, but still was able to do a good enough job to move up.
Anyone else found out later that a colleague lied big time on their resume/application?

I have not. the biggest lie was a guy saying he’d gotten an MBA from an M7, when he’d really just taken one or two courses thru the higher education program. I called him out and he said “I’m sure if they wonder about my capabilities it’d be fine.” he was from abroad. is this more common abroad?

honestly, he seemed pretty blasé about it. I did in fact call up the school and told them, but they replied that there wasn’t really anything they could do from their end, which really disappointed me.

Tech doesnt have the resources? Ever heard of FAANG or MAGA? Lol! They have access to the same resources (third party verification) as the banks.
Exaggerating responsibilities, performance or faking a title are what I have seen. But these tend to be discovered in interviews. However, some do go undetected. At least for a while. Until the BS blows up. I assume.
Yea I guess if you can deliver after not having the actual experience that's the true tell-tale sign.
During my years as a hiring manager/director I have seen - filling gaps, this was by far one of the most frequent incidences to pad the resume. - wrong title, responsibilities, inflated direct reports, etc - resume too much "geared" towards the jobs they applied for, keywords filled in, sometimes even copy/paste lines from job description with some changes, . - including "partnerships" in previous jobs they didn't have with Google, Amazon or other "high profile" companies.
