Drinking during the Internship

I've got an offer from a good BB (Citi, CS, Barclays) for next summer NYC. During the internship I'd only be 20 years old (late birthday) and I'm from a suburban town where I never needed a fake ID (would go to parties or stuff instead of bars).

Would I need to get a fake ID for firm events / if we go out to a bar with senior bankers? Is it frowned upon if you pull a fake ID and your MD notices?

Don't drink when you go out with anyone from the firm other than fellow interns, & even then exercise some common sense to make sure it's around people who won't go tell the office how yall got figgity figgity fucked up

Most MD’s don’t want to hang out with interns.

Firm sponsored events will make sure to have the options for people under 21 (obviously).

For non sponsored events (going out for drinks with group), don’t use a fake. Also, as others have said, don’t drink when out with MD or senior people, do it with your friends and interns. The risk of doing something dumb is just way too high.

No one will give you an offer because you went out for drinks.

My group goes out for drinks and most of our MDs go think we all go out twice a week (pre-covid of course). That isn’t to say I get trashed but def go 2-3 beers with our MDs/Partners.

Our group is ~20-25 ppl (EB) and we take interns as well to our group drinking and no-one so far has been stupid enough to cross the line and group doesn't care if you’re under 21.

But, of course if its an HR event don’t drink if you’re under thats a no brainer

Absolutely do not use a fake or drink during the internship if you're not of age. We routinely have at least 1 intern that's 20. Yeah it sucks to not participate in the drinking but it's way better than the alternative. Just do your 10 weeks and get an offer, and party the rest of college and going forward.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
