EB Comp?

Very curious to hear how bonuses have compared for analysts these past few years. CVP seems to be perennial top, followed by a mixed ranking of EVR, PWP, PJT, MOE, LAZ, GUGG. Wondering non-CVP banks rank for analyst bonus. Been doing some reading around past threads and it seems like Moelis does not pay as high as I would expected given the hype? Lazard bonuses are pretty bad, Gugg has higher bonus maybe comparable to Moelis. Would be great to hear some concrete numbers / rankings.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown of analyst compensation trends and rankings among Elite Boutiques (EBs):

  1. Centerview Partners (CVP): Consistently at the top in terms of total compensation. CVP offers a thick $50k signing bonus for first-year analysts, which is significantly higher than the ~$20k offered by others. Their base + bonus package is also highly competitive, often leading the pack.

  2. Evercore (EVR): Known for strong compensation, with bonuses closely aligned with other top EBs. EVR often sets the benchmark for bonuses, and other firms like PWP, PJT, and Gugg tend to follow their lead within a ~$20k range.

  3. PJT Partners (PJT): Competitive with EVR and PWP in terms of total comp. Analysts at PJT benefit from strong bonuses and a reputation for great exits. Protected Saturdays have also been implemented and respected.

  4. Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP): Similar to PJT and EVR in terms of pay. PWP bonuses are generally in line with the top-tier EBs, though slightly smaller in scale compared to CVP.

  5. Moelis & Company (MOE): While Moelis has a strong reputation, their bonuses are not as high as some might expect given the firm's prestige. They are generally comparable to Lazard and slightly below the top-tier EBs.

  6. Lazard (LAZ): Historically, Lazard bonuses have been on the lower end compared to other EBs. However, recent increases in base salaries and bonuses have brought them closer to parity with other boutiques.

  7. Guggenheim Partners (GUGG): Guggenheim bonuses are often higher than Lazard's and comparable to Moelis. They have been gaining traction in terms of analyst compensation.

Key Takeaways:

  • CVP leads the pack with the highest total comp, including a standout signing bonus.
  • EVR, PJT, and PWP are closely matched, with bonuses typically within ~$20k of each other.
  • Moelis and Lazard are slightly below the top-tier EBs in terms of bonuses, with Guggenheim being competitive in this range.
