ECM to coverage

Hey everyone,

I'm current a first year at a boutique investment bank where I got placed into the ECM group. I interned the previous summer at a top 3 bulge bracket in a coverage group but unfortunately couldn't get the offer to come back (had a few personal issues at home that took me away from the office, positive feedback overall though). Anyway, I'm not here to trash ECM or anything but I just know im not picking up the skills im looking to get out of banking. There is barely any modeling and the work seems very superficial. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of lateraling to a coverage group? FYI, I've had a few banking internships in the past all in coverage so I definitely have experience with the typical work that goes on there (i.e. modeling). My goal is ultimately to go into PE and I know its gonna be hard from ECM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
