ECM to Equity Research - Thoughts?

Do you know people who have transitioned from ECM to equity research? In reality, the work is very different but it also seems like a semi logical move. Thoughts?

It could probably work if it's a move within the same sector (i.e. tech focused ECM to tech ER)...My guess is that your biggest obstacle will be your current boss in ECM (assuming that you're trying to move within the same bank). If you're trying to do ER at a different firm but still within the same sector, you will probably be an attractive associate hire given your ECM experience in that particular sector. The ECM analysts who I deal with during our IPOs and secondary offerings know a great deal about my coverage companies and would probably be considered experienced hires.

This is based on only about 10-11 months in ER (at a BB). As far as specific examples of people doing this...I can't think of any...
