I know people who use their work as personal and even go as far as to send abusive messages to ex-girlfriends haha

I guess it really depends. If you are in anyway good they probably wont fire you for it unless they decide they need a reason to get rid of you.

Anything that's not related to work I use a separate email account. The downside is that I only check my email once or twice a day (or sometimes not at all).

Every email you send from your work account is logged and will be permanently saved. Thus, the guideline I've heard is: don't write anything by email that you wouldn't want on the front page of the WSJ.

If you really wanna bitch someone out, use Hotmail.

If you work for real I-Bank and they're NASD, they have to store their e-mails for 10 YEARS.

Everyhing is saved, mointored and watched.

I use my e-mail for personal stuff, but never send anything raunchy, racists, sexist or very deragatory from it (I save those for Yahoo!).

I speak to my friends regularly using it, try not to swear and keep mentions of drugs to a mimimum. If someone sends you an e-mail that isn't "safe" DO NOT RESPOND. You can get in trouble if you respond to it (bank can use it against you, should they want to)!

I once met a SG Cowen analyst that got fired 1-2 months prior to his bonus b/c he was sending porn around.

many banks block the same sites on the blackberry.

you can however have a personal blackberry, Q, or iPhone when it comes out
