End of the year bonus

When you say that the end of the year bonus for a 1st year analyst is $30-50K, does that mean you will get that full amount at the end of your first year?

For example, if you start in July 07, will you get $30-50K in December 07 or a pro-rated amount?

Analysts get there bonus in July of every year (at least at every BB)

Associates get there's in December and for the first six months it is pro rated.

And your number seem to be off quite a bit for BB 1st Year Top-tier bonus: 80k 2nd Year - 100k 3rd Year - 120k

Why do you assume 2007 numbers will be lower. Most banks keep steaming ahead with strong earnings and M&A pipeline. If anything, bonus numbers will probably stay the same, if not higher.

I was responding to peterwada, who appears to be starting his full-time training in July 2007. That would give him his first year bonus in July 2008, which will likely be lower than bonuses received in 2006 and 2007. This past year was a very good year and next year (those who receive bonuses in July 2007) will also be pretty good, but the economy can't stay this strong for that much longer.

I expect bonuses to be stagnant this year (2007) and drop come 2008-2009.

genius...

I see. About a drop come 2008, hmmm I dunno about that. Given the deal volume in '06 and the likelihood that '07 will also be a pretty good year... bear in mind that the average transaction takes time to execute and clear with regulatory etc., therefore the pipeline for M&A should be solid thru 2008. U don't think?

When the market turns sour, M&A activity dries up pretty fast. However, I don't think bonus numbers will just nose-dive (say from 80k to 30k). I do think that bonus numbers will be at least 10-20k lower come 2008-2009.
