Energy slump

For context: A1, not the worst hours (average 1/2am, occasionally work weekends). Love the job, great team.

I make an effort to go to the gym on weekends to stay fit and sleep +8hrs. Don’t drink too much and try to eat healthy during the week. Recently I feel like I’ve run out of energy on the weekends, often come back from my workout shaking and feel like I struggle to have motivation to get out and meet more than 1 or 2 friends.

Anyone been in the same place and knows how to get energy back?

To tackle your energy slump, here are some actionable tips based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Reassess Your Nutrition:

    • Focus on meal prepping to ensure you're getting balanced meals throughout the week. High-protein breakfasts, healthy snacks like bananas or protein bars, and avoiding processed foods can help stabilize energy levels.
    • Consider incorporating more complex carbs (e.g., sweet potatoes, quinoa) to fuel your workouts and daily activities.
  2. Optimize Your Workouts:

    • If you're feeling drained post-workout, it might be worth adjusting the intensity or duration. Compound lifts and functional exercises are great but ensure you're not overtraining.
    • Try shorter, more frequent sessions during the week (e.g., 30-minute blocks) instead of long weekend workouts.
  3. Hydration and Supplements:

    • Stay hydrated throughout the day, not just during workouts.
    • Consider adding vitamins or supplements like fish oil, magnesium, or immune boosters to support overall health and recovery.
  4. Prioritize Recovery:

    • Sleep is crucial, but quality matters as much as quantity. Stick to a consistent sleep schedule and avoid screens before bed.
    • Incorporate active recovery like stretching, yoga, or light walks to reduce fatigue.
  5. Social Energy Management:

    • It's okay to limit social interactions if you're feeling drained. Focus on quality over quantity—spend time with close friends who energize you.
    • Plan low-effort activities like coffee chats or casual walks instead of high-energy outings.
  6. Mental Reset:

    • Take time for quiet reflection, meditation, or gratitude practices to combat stress and improve focus.
    • Engage in hobbies or activities that make you laugh or bring joy—dopamine boosts can work wonders.
  7. Listen to Your Body:

    • If the fatigue persists, it might be worth consulting a doctor to rule out underlying issues like deficiencies or burnout.

Remember, it's all about balance. Adjust your routine gradually and see what works best for you. You've got this!
