Engineering -> IB

I graduated with my BS in Aerospace Engineering (GPA 3.5) and have been working at a large military defense contractor as an engineer for about a year now. While I certainly enjoy my current role I only want to do technical engineering work for a few years and switch into a high finance position (preferably IB or PE) but possibly consulting. I’m looking at starting a MBA program in a couple of years (either Professional while working or save up money and do it full time). In the mean time, I’ve been reading books related to the industries I’m interested in and have begun to network with people in the areas that have peaked my interest.

For anyone that’s in the industry or has had a similar experience, what’s your advice for someone in my position? What’re the best next steps to transitioning from engineering to finance or consulting?
