Exit Opps - Insights?

I did a search and really didnt get much insight into my question. I will be joining a respected FIG group at a BB this summer and (as of now) would like to head to the buyside after my analyst stint. Are the analysts in FIG groups really pigeon holed by the specific skill sit gained from the unique valuation of financial institutions? It seems like this would be a decent group to join right now for deal experience, which most argue is extremely important for buyside interviews. Looking for comments on where FIG analysts go (maybe specific firms), and if breaking into respected PE firms is that difficult with this background.

Searched and found some interesting thoughts from a while back.

Would be interested to hear what some of you thought about FIG, and exit opportunities, in light of more recent market developments (i.e. financial institutions looking to consolidate).
