FDD vs Corporate Fin (ib prep)
I am going to graduate soon and was wondering, if I didn't get ib, what role might be a better trajectory for a lateral into IB after 1 yr?
1. FDD/Valuation analyst at a big firm: Better brand name, but maybe less transferable skills.
2. Corporate finance analyst at a financing company that is pretty involved in capital markets and fp&a work. Less brand name, but maybe more transferable skills.
I understand the MBA route might be necessary, but in terms of being able to lateral into a MM or BSB, which route would you all recommend?
Valuation should give you a good platform to move to IB from. Note that lateraling from non-IB roles is pretty dependent on having a strong hiring market which is not currently the case
I did a year in TAS FDD and has no issue lateraling into an MM and a lot of other colleagues did the same between 1-2 years in.
Thanks for the input, just some quick follow up q’s.
1 do you know the timeline for FT FDD recuiting?
2 are most FT classes filled with summers or can non-return ib summer analysts come in more easily?
