Fellow Chicago monkeys

It seems like there's a decent number of monkeys in Chicago. I know there were previous attempts to assemble a group of finance professionals in the city, but for some reason it was not well publicized. So I wanted to create this thread and see if there is an interest from fellow Chicago monkeys in assembling a group that meets once a month for drinks, socializing, networking, etc. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM, and if we get enough interest, I will try to set up a time and location that will be convenient for everyone.

Thanks.

I'm very pleased that we have been getting a lot of e-mails expressing interest. A few of them are currently living elsewhere but will be moving to Chicago this summer to start work. Those people are more than welcome to join once they move.

As HFF said above, we're currently trying to compile all the names, e-mail addresses, etc., so we can send mass e-mails regarding meetings and other matters. Due to people's work schedules, we're thinking Sunday afternoon would be a good time to meet up for drinks and socializing. A place like English or Moe's in river north would be a good spot.

The first meeting will mostly be social, getting to know others. But as the group evolves, we definitely want this to be a social/professional group for those in finance. The details are still a bit murky, but HFF and I will discuss this in greater detail in the coming weeks.

A final note. I hate to sound like an elitist or jackass, but this group is for those who are already in finance, NOT current college students who are looking for jobs. The exception would be Booth and Kellogg MBA students since they are further along in their career trajectory. The reason we're doing this is to prevent the club from devolving into a forum where kids come out and try to find job leads. That would be uncomfortable and awkward for all of us involved.

Once again, thanks everyone for your interest.

That's awesome that you guys are getting this off the ground, way to use WSO beyond the internet

HFFBALLfan123Soooo, no one showed up, good thing i lived next door and could just go right back home. If anyone has any ideas of a potential time that might get more than 1 person, feel free to post it...

Good thing I decided to take that nap instead....

I agree with planning an event during the week. Thursday nights are usually a good night....people starting to get excited for the weekend (even if we do have to work on the weekends at least we can wear jeans!).

Perhaps pick a night during the week, such as Thursday to have the meet-up. Pick a time that is late enough, that people who work later can attend but not too late that no one will come. Maybe around 7:00 PM? Just a thought..
