Finance Internships in Europe

I am a rising sophomore looking into internships for next summer. I live in NY, but I was wondering what opportunities are available to intern for the BB's and similar banks abroad. I'd prefer to work anywhere in Spain because I speak spanish, but anywhere in Europe would be great.

What are the main difference between working for a BB in NYC vs. a city in Spain?

I hear you're paid less abroad, but also that the hours are better and the environment more relaxed.

Any and all information I could get would be great. I am also planning on studying abroad my junior year in Spain, and if possible I would like to continuing interning for the same bank I worked for over the summer. I have enough credit that I could basically take my junior year off so that could be a unique opportunity. Something else I could do is work for bank X in NYC next summer and then try and work for that same bank abroad in the fall/winter/spring.

Thoughts? Thanks.

zeropowerNo jobs in Spain, but ive had good luck getting responses from London and Geneva offices. French would defs be a + for Geneva though.

As in being fluent in french written and oral?

If France go to Paris, if you're doing it for brand name and network opportunities.

Yes before landing London (1st choice) had interviews for DB and a smaller PWM shop (both Geneva offices - Zurich actually bigger for finance but they prefer German over French there) and yes Geneva requires completely bilingual people as since youll be interacting (well, at least the positions i saw) with local firms as opposed to talking to London or elsewhere which would be solely english.

Like Paris as well but it gets a bit tooooo French if you know what i mean haha.

Thanks for the info

Haha, paris to french?? I thought it would be very international?

I'm going a semester abroad from september till december, to france. So i'll bring my french up. Maybe i'll apply for internships in Paris of Zurich. Do you know in what way the culture differs comparing to London?

zeropower (and anyone else): How do you get responses from Euro offices? Just online apps?

I'm also very interested in working abroad (probably FT at this point), but being here in the states with no contacts abroad, have no idea how to get my foot in the door.

@zeropower

Really interested in this too. I just started an internship here but would be cool to have one in Europe next summer.Just curious how hard was it to land the London internship?

@zeropower: start contacting people on LinkedIn and briefly explain your situation.

@Cruel: I'm trilungual but my french isn't as good as it could be. So i'm hoping that when I come back from my exchange program, my french will be very good. I woon't be studying at and GE, but ESC.
