First Time in NY, Recommendations?

I'm an incoming SA at a bank in NY, and figured I'd visit the city over break with my family. Any recs for food and places to hit up would be greatly appreciated! We'll be in Manhattan/Midtown West.

Another note, would it be a good idea to take advantage of being in the city to network for group placement and find places to live over summer? I'm a bit burnt out and need a break, but don't want to have any regrets down the line.

Thanks!

I would check out the museums and one of the rooftop spaces (e.g., Top of the Rock, Vanderbilt, Hudson Yards). I say one of the rooftop spaces because the tickets are expensive and it'll probably be crowded.

I would check out the NYU area. I don't know how true this is now (so someone who's younger please opine here), but one popular choice for living in the city during your summer analyst program is in an NYU school dorm. See how you feel about the area and try some of the food options! Students have begun to go home for winter break, so it should be quieter as well.

Good advice above. Hudson Yards is also pretty cool with the lights at night. Maybe check out one of the christmas markets (Union Sq or Bryant Park)

I wouldn't try and network, you're probably all set as an incoming SA... if you had any analysts/associates who REALLY helped you at the bank you're headed to, guess you could ask if you can buy them lunch (only if after the 1st though - no one wants to do networking lunches during the holiday weeks). But networking is not really a thing for PE and FTs generally prefer to network virtually these days, so think you are fine to just have fun with your family.

As for places to live, not really something you can do in person. The 3 options are NYU housing, Airbnb, or NYU sublet. They have been discussed to death on here, but it will all be coordinated online. Even neighborhoods you can't be that picky on for SA housing.

I'd just have a nice time with your family. Maybe get some feel for the subway as you guys are exploring if you haven't been to NY before. The Apple maps on your phone has a transit option which shows you how to get anywhere on the subway.

You can also rent a place for the summer.

I'd lump that under NYU sublet... if you find someone else to sublet from who doesn't go to NYU that's cool, but not like anyone is signing a fresh new lease with a rental building + attempting to furnish it for an 8 week internship. Happens in other cities but not really NYC.

Are you 21?
