FP&A to IB after SA?

Hi all,

Currently going to be interning in FP&A at a BB over the summer. My goal is to finish this SA and then move into IB (Internally or looking elsewhere for FT). I am currently networking with other firms to setup the 1st round for FT, however, I was wondering if I could express this to HR.

I know it sounds silly and dangerous, but I believe they would give me the best bet especially if folks get cut and there are open spots, I feel like I would be prio'd in interviews given I have been working in the bank.

I know it sounds dangerous because if they are not slots, they will probably end up not giving me a return offer in FP&A now knowing that my original plan was IB.

Should I just stick to networking with other banks and setting up the 1st round opportunity for full-time IB or express to HR my interest in IB and ask if any slots are open?

Open to any advice in general in making the transition!

Best,
