France - Paris - Rothschild or Moelis
Hell everyone.
I am currently facing a dilemma and i want your help plz.
I know rothschild is like the GS of Europe and an extremely prestigious bank. I recently got an offer for a 6 months internship at their Paris office and i also got an offer for the new Moelis Paris office which is obviously a lot smaller.
I want in the future to maybe go in the US and continue there, so i thought an internship at a US bank may help me to do that.
My question is, will the internship at Moelis jeopardize my career and my plans ( a transfer to London or NYC) . Is it better to do Rothschild and what would you do in my place ?

Félicitations pour tes offres. C'est ton stage de fin d'études? Si c'est le cas va où t'as le plus de chances d'être embauché après. Les deux c'est de très bonnes boutiques mais R&Co est largement supérieur en France. Tu pourras bouger dans n'importe quelle autre banque après 1 ou 2 ans.
Merci beaucoup ! Mais pour aller aux US aprés c'est mieux de se lancer dans une banques americaines ou prendre la valeur sure ( donc Rothschild ) .
Pour la suite de la carierre, prendre un stage dans une boutiques americaines avec un petit bureau à Paris reduit-il mes chances pour les GS - JPM - MS à Londries et aux US ou pas ?

Je pense que le move aux US en soi est bien compliqué, j'ai seulement vu des gens qui était chez MS le faire. Donc j'ai pas trop d'infos à te donner là dessus. Un stage chez R&Co ou chez Moelis est un énorme atout pour postuler aux banques que tu as cité à Londres. Je pense qu'en termes de punch sur le CV c'est à peu près similaire mais je pense que niveau exp R&Co est mieux, en tout cas en France.

Je te conseille de prendre le stage chez Moelis. Tu auras beaucoup plus facilement accès à une embauche derrière contrairement à chez Rothschild où le processus de recrutement contient des entretiens additionels.
En terme de brand name R&Co est meilleur en Europe, et Moelis est largement plus reconnu aux US si c'est ton but.

Cest faux! Le mieux si tu nes pas presse cest de faire Rothschild, puis recruter après pour une grosse banque US basé à Londres puis faire un transfer. Mais moelis ne te transférera pas car cest une boutique et ils n’aiment pas les visa.

Roth is the market leader in France and carries a top tier brand name in France. Much more institutionalised, bigger structure, etc. lots and lots of people in their Paris office
Moelis just recently opened their Paris office and have just a handful of bankers there and thus it will be much more entrepreneurial and you will be more on the spot and with greater access to their 2 MDs there, with more responsibilities etc.

Long story short an internship at Roth will cary more prestige and caché if you want to move to London. For NYC, Moelis is obviously a tier above Rothschild there and one of the best names in the US generally but transfers are harder to the US than London.
Regarding FT offers, I don’t know about Roth but would assume you can convert Moelis if you’re good (and/or ask to transfer to London, although the paris team may not love it)
On Moelis, the 2 MDs are really good. One used to be [head of consumer] at MS and is well linked to French strategics, while the other one is also a senior MD coming from JPM and he’s well linked with sponsors. Can’t comment on junior team.
Despite the extra interviews for the FT, R&Co Paris would be a great move. You can do a secondment in the US as AN3/ASSO1 or move to a top EB after the internship or a year stint - saw plenty of people doing CVP, PWP Paris and moving internally to the US.
