freshman: what to do to get ahead?
hi all, i'm a freshman at uchi! first post on wso and it's me being a tryhard, very on brand. but i'd love some advice on the best use of my time as a first year, what i should be focused on right now.
i honestly didn't have much interest in finance before getting on campus, but i thought it was worth exploring. so i applied and got into a few clubs (the blue chips, maroon capital, a few specialized ones) and am doing some AI/econ research on the side.
you can probably tell from my list that i'm not deadset on any specific industry yet, i've mainly been exploring my options and making friends lol.
but i know that banking recruits fastest, so i want to prepare as best i can; i know there are people out there who've been gunning for IB since high school, so i'm pretty far behind. no relevant experience besides the clubs i just joined, just research & internships in completely unrelated fields.
does anyone have advice for the best use of my time at this point? should i be applying to internships (and if so, what kind is ideal for freshman summer?), networking already (somebody told me to wait until recruiting is over), studying technicals?
any and all thoughts appreciated!
