From Equity research to Investment banking: when is the best timing?
I have been working as an equity analyst for five years, and found myself more excited about PE/IB during my experiences in IPO projects. Since breaking into PE directly is difficult, so I decide to switch to IB first, and after several years then decide whether go to PE or stay at IB.
However, it seems that, in most cases, equity analysts tend to switch to IB at early stage (1-2 years in ER) or as a senior analyst with industrial network and knowledge. 5-6 years experience in ER is too long to the former case and not enough for the latter one.
What is the best timing for an equity analyst to switch to IB?
Thanks in advance. PS. I do not care about title discount, and I only cherish the chance to switch.
