FT Positioning

Hi guys I really appreciate all of the help I've been given so far. I figured I'd consult the masters of BS and Spin regarding my current situation.

I wasn't serious about recruiting until late, leaving me with a 3.3 GPA and a summer internship at a mutual fund in a Treasury/Finance role.

I wasn't happy with this, and through networking/cold-calling/emailing I was able to land a part-time unpaid internship at a no-name boutique Investment bank during the current semester.

I fully intend to leverage this experience come FT recruiting but have struggled about how to explain my story since I'm going from banking to treasury and then trying to go back to banking. I also plan on either coming back to the firm I'm out now or switching to a different firm come fall to get more experience. Does anyone know if BB, MM, or well known boutique firms take interns on a part-time basis during the year? Trying to add a little more brand name to my resume. My guess is no but if anyone managed to land one, I'd be very interested to hear how via comment or PM.

I was wondering if anyone could think of a halfway decent story other than I struck out with FT recruiting because I didn't get my shit together until late. Also, which firms do you think would give me the most bang for my buck in my networking efforts, or probably asked more easily, which firms should I not waste my time at because they won't even give me a look. I plan on reaching out soon to a list of banks about FT recruiting, then really getting after it come july/august.

Also, because treasury is only 40 hours a week I plan to spend a lot of time "doing my homework." I plan to go through BIWS excel and modeling and Rosenbaum & Pearl. Are there any other resources available that would be beneficial.

Once again, thanks for all of your help.

just apply apply apply. Set up a rigirous plan for networking. X emails a week, Y phonecalls a week, Z apps a week. Keep flipping the coin till your get your chain of luck.

most MM IB internships are offered through networking with VPs, MDs etc who can help structure a special off cycle internship for you. It's tough asking them straight up.
