Recruiting for Full-Time after Summer Analyst position?

Any insight/advice on recruiting for full-time to a different location after Summer Analyst stint? When are interviews, networking best practices (i.e. should I be open that I want to leave current group after the summer), any success stories?

For reference, I'm going into my Junior year currently - interning at middle-market PE shop in New York this summer & doing next summer at top energy group in Houston.

I just don't want to live in Houston.

There are a zillion threads on this specific location switch, recommend giving them a read because you have to be incredibly careful. Groups there view this as a huge Judas move. You're not the only guy in Houston wanting to move to NY FT, to say the least...

It's difficult and you're jeopardizing return offer 1) certainly by networking/being away from desk a lot and 2) Houston really dislikes people trying to flee to NY, so if there is even a thought or whisper that you're trying to move, your return offer will be the first on the chopping block. Do not talk about your NY summer.

10,000% do NOT be open about it. Don't say a word to anyone, not even your best friend at a different bank. I would network externally as networking with internal teams will make their way back to your team - within NY teams don't really care if you want to swap coverage, Houston is a different story. Once you get the return offer, you should have external interviews lined up + you can ask HR if there are any internal spots open in NY that you could quickly network and interview for.

Internal move at 1 year to P&U or Infra NY group is much easier.
