FT S&T TO IB After 1yr or 2yr?

I've seen this kind of thread pop up a few times but would like to get a little more clarification from those who made successfully the transition from S&T to IB. I am going into a 2 year S&T rotational program with a BB in NY and was wondering if it is better to start networking to now to leave the role(be it with the same bank internally or externally) after 1 year? ..or would you guys recommend sticking it out for the full 2 years but networking 6 months before the 2nd year is up?

As a follow-up, any desks you would recommend that "might" have some transferable skill sets. I know equity research might have some modeling/valuation but that line of business falls into its own recruitment most of the time.
