Fulbright

I recently won a study abroad scholarship from which previous winners have had a high success rate in nationally competitive scholarships, especially the Fulbright. After winning the scholarship there is a committee that meets with you to discuss your application in regards to future opportunities and they believed I would be a very strong Fulbright applicant. I would have to start thinking/aiming towards the scholarship soon for a shot at winning the award.

It truthfully won't impact my decision to apply for the award that much, but do you know if I am lucky enough to get a FT offer could I defer it a year in order to participate in the Fulbright? (Have you heard of anyone who has done this?)

havilapehaha "inevitable 9th semester;" you'd need an absurdly good excuse to have that fly

Maybe 9th semester isn't the right term then. To put things into perspective, what do you think those BBs would say if one comes up and basically says "I need to take a semester off and work for the next year's tuition, and this is the only way that I can enroll for my senior year" ?

I have friends that have deferred from places as well - don't know how hard it is to pull off, but it's definitely possible and does happen.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting a scholarship, deferring the scholarship for one year to work and then leaving the bank after one year to get their degree? Does leaving one year earlier than the expected 2 year analyst stint burn any bridges?

I have done this.

You can definitely do it, I would imagine that most firms will be extremely supportive of letting you do so.
