Hey, that is actually not a bad strategy. There are a few points to consider:

-Lost earnings of the first two years worked in London rather than Dubai, this amounts to about Eur 120K over the two years which if invested over the years ends up being quite a big difference

-More work. I know from friends that in Dubai, the average work is from 9.30am to 12am during weekdays with usually no weekend work. In London I will be working about 10-15 hours a week more

-Difficulty in making the transition? I am not sure about that so someone would need to help me but I think that lateraling into the Dubai office may be easier said than done. Offices have very very small teams so it is unlikely that my London firm will happen to have a spot in the Dubai office which would make transferring impossible. In that case I would need to apply to other banks trying to lateral. How hard would that be?

-Less opportunity to shine: Easier to shine in Dubai as bankers there are less talented

What do you think?

Bankers in Dubai are less talented?:O haha what.

All the internationals are trying to go to Dubai because they earn twice there than in London and NYC because of no tax. Therefore, the best get selected.

Please find a little chill. I understand you have to decide quickly and you want closure but posting something and bumping your own thread 5x on the same day as posting it is not going to get the WSO community more involved with your situation.

Now on topic: Dubai is quite a unique situation because, as you said, teams are smaller. So probably there are less bankers in Dubai and also less Dubai bankers on this forum, making it hard for you to get a proper response. In fact, Dubai is not even fully explored by European expats and immigration in the country is still rising quickly. There are some articles online that talk about racial 'discrimination' in the workforce. I suggest you read those. You can also check LinkedIn and see how many Caucasians have actually made it to the higher ranks and what their career trajectory has been.

As someone else previously mentioned, probably you have already made up your mind where you want to go and you just want confirmation. Moreover, in your original post you mentioned that even a normal IB position in Dubai would be superior in terms of pay vs Apollo in London. If you think that is the case then maybe you should not even be concerned about whether you can make it to VP as your pay below that might even make it happen for you.

Does anyone know whether there are any post MBA opportunities in IB Dubai for people that have no previous IB experience? I am about to get my MBA at LBS and I am scared there will not be enough IB spots in London given that I do not have previous banking experience

Not sure about the finance industry specifically there, but Dubai is really nice for white expats and the local-born population. I went to postgrad with a handful of people from the Emirates and both my dad and uncle has worked there.

The locals are pretty racist and if you have no moral issues with having poor Pakistanis or Indians working as slaves you can live like a king. From my experience the average work force is not super ambitious and hard working, as most of them are already millionaires or billionaires, which can make it easier to stand out early on. However, I would be surprised if you made it past VP as a non-muslim working on a local contract, as they prefer to keep their own at the top. You'll also be at a slight disadvantage in Dubai due to nepotism and favors being handed out to your peers (because "everyone's" uncle is a sheikh).

TLDR: If your main object is money and then quitting at 35, I would go for Dubai.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.
