Getting into IB: corporate finance vs transaction services

Hey everyone, I'm currently about to start my penultimate year at university after the summer break, I will be mainly applying for IB internships but due to the fact how competitive a spot on SA programme is I will be applying to Corporate Finance and Transactional Services too. I'm applying to these as a back up in a way because if I were to get offered a full-time role at the end of the internship I'd accept it as I've heard one of these positions can lead to an exit opportunity to jump over to IB. What I'm for is to find out any information from anyone currently in one of these two roles or someone who has already jumped ship to IB M&A, I'd like to find out the intangible skills that one could learn from these two roles and also in your opinion which role would be more beneficial to someone like me who is hoping to transfer to M&A.

I appreciate any feedback that you can offer me.

Thanks Stephen

TAS would be best for M&A, which seems to be your dream destination.

CF could land you in an industry coverage role depending on the firm. If the role is in BD or deals with acquisitions, that's a plus (but I wouldn't expect it).

Consider which choice would be the best path to a solid bschool too. See where seniors at the firm got their mba. Always a nice option for a career pivot.

Also I'm assuming by your use of the words "university" and "programme" that you're in the UK?
