Getting the name of the hiring manager?

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question in relation to IB/PE applications, people say it is a really good idea if a candidate can actually do enough research to get the name of the hiring manager and use it in their cover letter/cold email.

How do you guys go about getting the names of these people, would it be wise to reach senior staff in the company on LinkedIn and ask for the HR names, seems like you not only open a dialogue with people who are likely going to make the final decision but also show commitment.

Opinions and personal experiences are much appreciated.
