GIP Analyst 2024 Final Round (thoughts on this vs IB?)

for those who have finished hr screen + associates and VP rounds etc... curious on how final round was.

I saw some people say they already had final rounds as early as late Aug. A lot of stuff can be misleading on this forum but have another offer for energy IB exploding so anticipate I could get final round this week.

Additionally my thoughts = Pro - GIP > Energy/PU banking as that is literally the top exit

Con - WSO says shit culture but I have really enjoyed the interviews so far. Ppl much nicer than my banking int. so kinda taking this w a grain of salt

Thx in advance

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights about GIP:

  1. GIP is considered very hard core. Former employees often describe it as "banking 3.0". The structure is hierarchical and associates may not feel their input is highly valued.

  2. The interview process at GIP is rigorous. It includes a super day with an in-person case study / paper LBO that lasts about 45 minutes. The interviewer provides one piece of information at a time and expects you to tease out the info needed to accurately calculate returns on a piece of paper, without a calculator.

  3. GIP does take laterals. Some people have joined GIP after several years at a Canadian Pension infra PE group or after hopping around banks a bit.

  4. The culture at GIP has been described as challenging, with sharp-elbowed VPs and Principals. However, the highest levels of the organization are aware of the culture problem.

  5. Despite the tough culture, GIP is seen as a great place to build a brand coming out of banking. You'll work with some extremely sharp people, make great cash, and probably develop some great tools.

  6. It's important to note that while GIP is a top exit, the deal velocity and breadth are not things that insiders or headhunters promote getting at GIP. Associates leading the model may be asked to run many iterations of different sensitives, which means being on one big deal for a quarter+ and seeing only a very narrow side of it.

Remember, these are general insights and individual experiences may vary. Good luck with your decision!
