GMAT Prep

Any recommendations on the best GMAT prep courses? I continue to hear psoitive/negative opinions on Princeton 700+ course, Kaplan, Manhattan prep, etc. I was wondering what is the best course in terms of live lectures, practice questions and practice exam. I am willing to put in a good amount of time to study so would like a course that's the complete package.

I took the GMAT a few months ago after studying for 3.5 months and ultimately scored a 740.

First thing is take a practice test. There are many resources out there to do so. This will help understand how much time you need to study. I scored a 630 on my first test and knew I needed a considerable amount of studying.

I highly recommend purchasing Target Test Prep for quant - super thorough and huge question bank. If you can score well on their quant quizzes / tests, this will translate well to test day. Also, don’t bother with their verbal material - not that helpful and plenty other resources out there that are better.

For verbal, I would use OG Verbal textbook + LSAT for RC and CR. The OG will have all the material and teaching you need to master pronouns, parallelism and other grammar rules. Use LSAT for RC and CR after you have used the OG and your verbal score will shoot up considerably. The LSAT CR and RC are harder than their respective gmat sections, but are a great challenge if you are shooting for an elite score. For LSAT sections, don’t worry about timing.

Also check out GMAT Ninja’s YouTube videos both on their own channel and GMAT club channel - extremely helpful and probably the best verbal resource out there for when you are starting off / having difficulty with certain concepts. Highly recommend watching their series on the GMAT club channel as I can confidently say this boosted my score considerably.

Once you are coming to the end of your prep, purchase all 6 GMAT prep tests. Take one a week and then review the rest of the week the types of q’s you got wrong. Do maybe 2 or 3 before your first test so you don’t burn through all 6. These tests are invaluable as they are the best gauge of how you will score on test day.

If you have any questions, use GMAT club to either ask it or find someone who has already asked it - amazing resource for practice questions, study resources, write ups on peoples study paths, and much more. Otherwise happy studying!
