Goldman Sachs guy shot dead in NYC subway
This city is fucking crazy. "Mr. Enriquez was in the last car of the train when a man who had been pacing back and forth pulled out a gun and shot him at close range, according to Chief of Department Kenneth Corey, who spoke at a Sunday afternoon press conference. The two men had no interaction before the shooting."
Imagine you're just going about your day and then somebody just walks up and shoots you point blank. What the fuck is wrong with NYC?

Does it not occur to WSJ to mention the race of the suspect, which would be a key identifier? In times like this, when we're trying to catch a dangerous murderer, their woke antics and political correctness are actually interfering with the investigation. What’s crazy is that a couple of days ago Adams said that Jamie Dimon should take the subway to work and now this happens.
At least if it was Dimon, something would actually be done about the problem.

It's so so awful. How to we solve this? I'm gonna guess this person has some level of mental issues where he really should be in a mental hospital, so I don't think he would respect gun laws OR restrict these actions if NY had more permissive gun laws (i.e. hold off because everyone else might be strapped).
They have been placing more NYPD on the subways, but every time you see them they are in groups, in the corner, looking at their phones. It really feels like they don't give a shit about the people of NY or protecting us - and please don't give me "blah blah if you supported the cops in ny they would blah blah" - it's their fucking job, if you don't want to do the job, turn in your gun and lifetime pension.
My solution? Fully rifle-armed police on every subway car and platform for the entire summer. Pay them the overtime. Additionally, INCREASE police salaries for new recruits and force retire the shit heads. Get the best and brightest on the force, not just the sergent's nephew who barely graduated high school in Nassau county. Finally, increase funding for police-adjacent services who are well-trained in handling people with huge mental issues AND improve the shelter system (this is honestly the defund-the-police solution, albeit less vindictive towards police). If we can make shelters safe (they are not) while also starting a pipeline to get people the help they need, maybe we can start to solve this. In the past with Giuliani, we kind of just locked up all undesirables - which is a bandage on a festering wound - we need a better solution with both a kind heart and show of force.
Absolutely not. Stop trying to explain every crime committed by "b-but he was mentally ill!". No, he wasn't. Was he a low IQ low life? Yes. Sadly, democrats and republicans alike refuse to see the reality for what it is.

Daniel Enriquez Passes Away
It is with a heavy heart that I inform the people of Goldman Sachs of the passing of Daniel Enriquez. Dan lost his life in a senseless tragedy Sunday morning in New York City.
A beloved son, brother, partner and friend, Dan joined the Goldman Sachs community in 2013, and was a valued member of the Macro Research team in Global Investment Research in New York. He worked diligently to support our Macro Research team, and epitomized Goldman Sachs’ culture with his strong emphasis on teamwork and community. Dan worked particularly closely with our Latin America Economics team, and was passionate about learning Portuguese in addition to Spanish and English. He will be deeply missed.
Dan earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Whitman College and a master’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University.
The news of Dan’s passing in this violent attack in the city that so many of our people call home comes as a shock to all of us. Yeah I absolutely do not take the subway unless necessary. I just run into a bunch of fucking nutcases anytime I'm down there.
Putting cops on subways wont solve the problem. The problem is ke tally sick people aren’t put in asylums and are instead allowed to roam the subways/streets. Solution: you see someone crazy/sleeping on subway etc, mandatory mental evaluation and pending sign off from therapist, person should not be allowed to leave.
Agreed, this is the only effective near-term solution. All the handwringing about fixing problems longer-term are fine and dandy, but all of those have super long timelines that will only result in more carnage in the foreseeable future.
Just got an email about it, and Goldman Sachs is still forcing all of us to RTO. It's absolutely ridiculous. How many more of us are going to get killed, either by the stress of work or by a crazy person

I'm not sure about WSJ, but some news articles have started slipping in that the suspect is a "dark-skinned male" whatever that means. And of course, the always-competent New York police are asking help from citizens to do their job for them and catch this guy that'll probably shoot a couple more productive members of society before being sent to prison where he'll have free meals and get to play ping pong.
