Golf vs. Cycling

What do you monkey's think?

So you have this current generation of young executives, and they're not particularly interested in walking around slowly. They want to do something physical, especially outdoors. They are very quantified, because that's definitely a thing now: It's not so much fitness as they are interested in fitness that they can measure. So the blooming of the Fitbits and Misfits the Jawbones of the world is all about people saying, 'I don't have to go to the gym, feel crappy for an hour, and be thankful that it's over.' You can actually see what you've done. The quantified-self stuff has perforated the popular conscience.

I was on a cycling team back in middle school. You may laugh at the thought of little kids wearing colorful tights, but we were no joke. It's pretty brutal speeding down the road at 35+ mph passing cars, only to cross over your teammate's wheel and flip over. Could barely walk for a couple weeks, and I looked like a mummy for Halloween.

Competitive cycling is tough, but if you stick with it long enough you will get ripped legs.

Unless you train like a professional golfer (hit the gym on a regular basis), well yea biking is indeed "doper" than golf since it is much more physically vigorous. But the mentality strength you need for golf simply makes it the best sport on earth, period.

Hahaha. Best sport on earth? It barely qualifies as a sport, let alone being the best.

I like golf, but seriously? Best sport on earth? Many sports feature a mental component. I'd think that the mental toughness that an ultramarathoner or a rower would need trumps that of a 75 year old dude on an EZ-Go for three hours.

I can't stand cyclists who ride in the middle of the road and pretend they're a car. Golf is a game you can play for nearly you're entire life and you don't have to agitate 90% of motorists while you're at it. Golf hands down. Nobody really cares if they're doing business with a good cyclist, but being a good golfer can be advantageous in the business world.

Since I live in CO (Healthiest State) Cycling and running are the cool professional "sports." It's easier to start biking, than golf. While both are expensive, biking is the "cheapest." My vote is for cycling. Fun fact, there are more bikes in Boulder than cars.

Triathlons > Golf > Just Cycling

Executives and big dawgs 'sports' choices.

I've golfed with an MD at a local boutique IB shop and was a lot of fun. Competitive but also very casual. 10/10 would do again.

Enjoy both. Just don't be a cycling hardo and move out the way if traffic is heavy.

Depends on you... Would you rather push yourself in a solitary endurance sport or get good at golf, enjoy the day/weather and shoot the shit with whoever you're golfing with? In short, do what you feel like doing..

Those lads chatting away in the tour de France peleton in the glorious sunshine sure seem to like what they're doing.

On the otherhand, those fat lumbering sloths at the driving range after work in the rain seem to be having fun, of sorts, too.

Arguing over X sport vs. Y sport is pointless. Unless it's rugby vs football (soccer or US footbal), in which case the answer is obvious

Riding a bicycle is fun and all. But... I prefer the challenge of golf. It's definitely not easy trying to put that little white ball in the hole. There is just something about perfecting my game, and having a nice relaxing break from life that gets me every time.

I prefer cycling and mountain biking as I find them to be more fun than golfing. I enjoy pushing myself physically. Something that's awesome about both cycling and golf is being outdoors. Golf does have the advantage when it comes to spending time with friends.

My fund managers do triathlon.

I personally would choose cycling over golf any day. Not that they are really comparable though.

Fortes fortuna adiuvat.

Does not compare. My father in law plays golf, and meets loads of interesting people. I cycle, and besides the occasional fuck you to a car cutting me off, I don't really meet a lot of people...

If you want to network play golf - I just don't like it, and I won't force myself. If you want to make your commute count and burn calories, cycle.

Easy. No need to tear each other's throat over the two.
