Good List?

Hi, these are the undergraduate schools I'm applying to. Is this a good list of schools or should I add in a couple others? Please tell me if there are any bad schools and if I should remove them. My goal is to make it to NY BB/EB IB

Target

Stern (ED), Ross (EA), Cornell (ED), Mendoza (EA), Kellogg (ED), Duke (EA)

Semi Target

Carroll (EA), Kelley (Regular), Mcintre (EA), Villanova Business (EA)

Non Target

UNC, Wake Forest, NC State (only because these are in state)

Thanks again for all of your help. Hopefully, the colleges won't notice that I applied ED to 3 schools and EA for most of the rest.

I might apply to Wharton but I have no confidence in my academic stats. But the reason why I'm undervaluing McIntre and Kenan-Flagler is because there is so much more competition for a space in their program and most of the recruiting process is focused solely on Charlotte and Southern Banking. In addition to this, the chances of getting a BB IB job from UNC or UVA is far less than say, Stern, Ross, Cornell, or any of the others I mentioned on the target list. Is my thinking process incorrect or am I thinking in the right direction? Do you have another

That's fine about Wharton. Yes, I do believe your thought process is a bit flawed. First of all, if you want to be competitive for BB NYC IB then you'll have to at least be competitive enough to get into the business tracks at the programs you mentioned.

Second, while there is a bit of a focus on the Charlotte offices, many students still make it to NYC, and considering you already know you want IB you'll likely be way ahead of the competition. Do a few UVA searches on LinkedIn - they have some solid numbers in the likes of some top EBs/BBs.

Additionally, I would not rank Notre Dame among those other "targets" listed, great school, but I don't think it's an IB target. I think you've got a solid list overall, maybe add Vanderbilt?

Applying to multiple schools ED is a risky move, if you get into more than one and have to tell one no after they accepted you, there is always a chance they find out about the other school and you get that offer rescinded. Not necessarily the most likely possibility but just as an FYI.

Why don't you apply to Dartmouth or Georgetown? Both have solid placement. Also you know Northwestern (Kellogg) doesn't have an undergrad business program right? They only have a "certificate" program associated with the MBA program - your major would have to be Econ or something else.

Would disagree with the other comment about Notre Dame - they definitely are a target and have plenty of placement across BB/EB IB

"Target" is certainly a vague term, but it's undeniable that ND isn't on par with Cornell, Duke, or NYU. Few IBDs come directly on campus for info sessions, and I've not seen them on many large banks' IBD core schools lists. Also, ND doesn't have a strong MBA program to amp their network, whereas the other three place significantly into the associate pool.

I do want to reiterate that ND is a great school. I think you will probably have a fantastic college experience and it's certainly possible to land anywhere with networking, it just won't be quite as easy as the others.

Yes, I think I'll take out NC State and Northwestern and put in Dartmouth, Wharton, and Georgetown. I hope they won't find out about the ED/EA, but it's my only shot to increase the likelihood of getting into all of the schools. If it comes to the point of exposing me to other institutions, I'll take UNC regular decision, but it seems like it's very unlikely. I'm also adding Vandy to the list btw.

Do not apply ED to multiple schools. There actually is a chance you get caught for this and your guidance counselor shouldn't be signing off on this anyways. Also if found out you screw future kids from your high school.
