Greenhill IB vs Jefferies S&T

I prefer markets emphasis in S&T, but I think I'd like to work for a hedge fund or private equity firm (maybe). I understand that IB typically has better exit opps, but I much prefer the atmosphere of a trading floor and think it would be a really cool experience. Also, I'm not sure I'd like to stay in finance forever versus doing something like teaching. To be honest I've never been the type-a finance guy, but I would like to see if it's work I can get into since it provides such a good life.

Greenhill offer in is real estate; Jefferies in equities.

Having done both I would say that the an IB internship is more valuable both in terms of experience and pedigree. It's not like you're going to become a pro but you will gain some transferable skills at least. It is also a lot easier to motivate a move into a different area coming from an IB background.

Also, it is much easier going from IB to S&T. A brand name certainly helps but despite that I had a hard to going from S&T to IB even though this was at the intern level. It's quite easy to get brand marked in banking, so take that into consideration.

Both are great offers. Being an intern on a trading floor is far less glamorous than you think. It's quite frankly pretty boring. This is not true for full-time though. The atmosphere is quite special, but less so in equities. Not sure about Jefferies set up, but in some cases Fixed Income and Equities are on different floors. Equities is usually a lot quieter than Fixed Income.

I would go for Greenhill. Real Estate is a really interesting space and you will actually learn something.
