Heavy Mood Swings from Working in IBD?

I've been working in IBD for over 5 months and noticed I get a lot of mood swings throughout the day - a lot more so than even when I was in HS or college. I often feel agitated and unstable from tons of requests from my associates and vps on menial tasks and all I'm staffed on right now is grunt work it feels like. Does anyone else experience this and is this common for analysts?! It seems so weird when my associate is telling me I'm doing a great job on a CIP in the morning only to roast my other CIP pages in the afternoon

Very common. Part of it is just adjusting to the workplace and as a first-year analyst your job is essentially 100% grunt work. Take it as experience and exposure, at 5 months in you are just getting your feet under you.

The other part (much larger part) is the stress, anxiety and lack of sleep associated with IB.. can't control all of these but try to sleep more when you can, eat healthy, and get some exercise and fresh air

I’d recommend you take mood stabilizer meds. You may not necessarily need them when you’re young but I’ve seen some people get progressively more neurotic as they became more senior

Ultimately just remember: it’s your VPs fault. When stuffs done incorrectly or someone else on your team drops the ball, VP is to blame.

This is why mid levels are often angry and stressed, they’re paid 250k+ for quality control and to make sure deliverables have no mistakes. Your vp likely has been pushing your associate to do X, Y and Z so your associate is throwing this responsibility onto you

I’d recommend you to take meds too. I’ve seen some guys in my group that don’t take their meds consistently and it’s not a good time on those days they don’t lol

This is what eCigs are for. Whenever you’re feeling bummed about something at work, just take a smoke break

Also, if you have anxiety, this helps with that as well. It’s better than meds bc you don’t become completely depressed or dependent from eCigs
