Help. Ran out of money - dropping out for a year. What jobs can I get?
I'm a Stanford computer science major and I ran out of money already. My family's in a bad situation as well. I've decided to put my school on hold and snag a full time job for a year before returning and attending part time and working full time.
I have 2.5 years left of school. That's a lot of tuition that I cannot match.
I have 1 year experience designing a financial web application.
What kind of full time jobs can I get with "Stanford Univ - Degree In Progress" on my resume? My GPA is at a 3.5. I have a bunch of professional IT certifications in software engineering.
Finance, computer engineering, HR, consulting....anything in the 20-50k range. what sort of positions would I get hired into?
take out as loan for tuition. sure you might graduate with 50k in debt, but you have a good degree from a good school with a good gpa. if you take a year off to work a job that pays20-50k, thats 1 year that you have forgone receiving a higher wage with your degree. oh and you would still have 2.5 yrs of school left after you made 20-50k for that year. OK so if you work for a year there is little chance that you would be able to pay for tuition with those wages (subtract taxes, living expenses, etc)
i tried ...got rejected twice for loans around that size. then i tried it with a cosigner -- no dice.
you might want to try finding an employer that could reimburse part of your tuition and go to school part time.
The username is called "kingofkings", all too similar to "dukeofdukes". Ignore the troll.
gobigorgohome.....come on man. give me a break will ya. i came here asking for advice and i really hope i can get some. i'm not this other person. does this look like a troll post? it's not racist or funny or offensive in any way shape or form.
leave me alone man. get some real problems....like mine.
probably a troll.
If you're at stanford, you can get a government backed student loan for full tuition. There's absolutely a zero percent chance that you can't unless you've already done something horrible in the past... even if you're broke and have credit card debt and your parents have gone bankrupt 3 times u can get a loan. It shouldn't be that way, but our government makes it that way. So I don't believe you.
do you know how frustrating it is when you have a legit problem but you aren't believed?
where can i get a FULL loan easily? i was denied twice. my credit score is 500-560 - i swear by it.
looking at this site, http://www.staffordloan.com/stafford-loan-info/government-student-loan…
there are limits on the loans. private loans require a cosigner with good credit or good credit from the student.
but if you think i really can get a full tuition loan you'd be a real life saver. the question is...where?
the maximum from a gov-backed loan is around $10k per year: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/studentloans.jsp
Even with financial aid grants you cant make it?
dude, you're a CS student. Go code for some startups for like 50 bucks an hour
How much do you actually need? Tutoring pays hell good in the UK (easily 30 bucks an hour and thats without your level of expertise). Doesnt your college offer some form of assistance? cant you negotiate down the immediate payment amounts? stop aiming for the full 50k, get stanford to take down the amount 20% and pay it back later, get 20% as a loan, then 20% as a part time job, and repeat the same thing in the second year. Just an idea bro, summer jobs help too. Get one of those lined up (not internship, paying) and its a lot easier to get loans out when u have that kind of stuff..
alternatively, kidneys fetch a good amount, and you can probably sell your balls too, looks like you wont be needing them either.
Drop that and come study in Germany, I am 100% sure you will find something here.
You know what your skills are. No one hear can really tell you what type of a job you should get and be somewhat successful at.
Maybe apply to transfer to another university that gives out big $$ scholarships, and within your transfer essay explain your financial situation?
I bet if you move to a school like USC or an east coast private with a large endowment your going to get some serious scholarships
drop out and let me finish the rest of your degree
drop out and let me finish the rest of your degree
Go talk to your financial aid advisor. A friend of mine was cut off by his parents and went to go see them and explain the situation. He walked away with 10,000 in grant money above fully paid tuition.....this was at a state school too.
be a consultant and get on craigslit and look for jobs..undercut the competition...kick ass..make some money
DROPPING OUT FOR A YEAR IS A REALLY BAD IDEA, no matter how dire your financial circumstances. You will lose a ton of momentum and your odds of finishing college at all will probably decline drastically.
Step #1 should be going to talk to the FINANCIAL AID OFFICE (why you decided to ask an internet forum first makes me wonder how you got into Stanford). Maybe you can do a Work/Study type thing, working at the Library or school IT Help Desk or something. If you cant get something on campus, try working retail or in a restaurant. Unless you have a haircut that could hide a birdsnest or the social skills of a rhesus monkey you should be able to find something.
There also must be some way to get loans. Again, your FINANCIAL AID OFFICER at the school can do a much better job pointing you in the right direction/helping with paper work than this forum can.
If you absolutely must, go to Part Time and work. Ironically, stoping being a full-time student will make your life more expensive in a lot of ways, not less. You will get screwed insurance wise. And think of all those movie-ticket discounts!
I understand you are going through difficult times in your life but common man! Get off your computer and talk to a human being about your problem. Show a little common sense here. This question is about on par with "SA needs help - what color tie should i wear to office on weekends?"
Student loans bro, might want to look into that. Or you can start selling yourself, The castro district would be a good place to start
