Helpfulness of SIE Exam on Undergrad Resume??
I'm an incoming freshman at a semi-target in a major city, and someone on a networking call recently suggested I look into taking FINRA's SIE exam this year to boost my resume and supply me with a good base of knowledge about the industry? If I'm interested in pursuing IB or PE, is it worth the time (and small yet still there) monetary commitment? What are your thoughts?
Hey GOA1, I'm here because nobody responded to this thread after a few days...maybe one of these resources will help you:
Hope that helps.
We talk to hiring managers at financial firms pretty regularly, and they think eventually that applying with a https://achievable.me/exams/finra-sie/?utm_source=wso</a">FINRA SIE in-hand will eventually be de-facto required.
It's worth doing now too: having your SIE on your resume shows your potential employers that you already know the profession, and have taken the initiative to learn about and pass a required test for it. Not only that, but hiring a pre-qualified applicant also saves them the time and money of training someone without the credentials.
If you were hiring and there were two similar candidates - one with the SIE and one without - which would you think is stronger?
This is not to say it's a golden ticket (it's not), but having your SIE can certainly help you - especially for Insurance (Series 6) and Wealth Management (Series 7) roles where a lot of candidates have similar resumes.
If you are sponsored by your company to take let’s say the series 7, do you still have to take the SIE to take the series 7? In other words, is the SIE a prerequisite if you already working for a firm that can sponsor you?
