A few things here:

  • deals closed isn’t indicative of experience. If you hop on a deal between signing and closing or during final diligence did you really “close a deal”?
  • if you work on a deal and build the model and the deal/ transaction ultimately fails to transact, is that not considered experience?

Deal counts will be skewed based on where individuals hop in on a process. All that said, if you close 2 sell-sides a year I think that would be a pretty solid experience. This year I’m sure people will have more deals than that, but it’s an anomaly. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing with other analysts on how many deals they have done, but what you actually do in the transaction is your experience not the headline number of deals closed. I would much rather have a full modeling and outreach rep on a failed transaction than simply run back-end diligence for 2 transactions.
