High-School Students Raise $30k

Hi Monkeys,

For the last three years, myself and other students interested in business and entrepreneurship at my high-school have been traveling and meeting with businesses across the country. The first year we visited New York City, and met with employees and representatives from Coco Foods, Stack Exchange, and Union Square Ventures. The second year we went out west and visited San Francisco and Palo Alto where we met with Pebble, Nest, Ness App (Likeness), and Stanford University. Last year we decided to return to New York City, as much can change in just two years (we found out first hand at Fab). We met with Spotify, Quirky, 10gen (The MongoDB company), Charity Buzz, Branch, and last but not least- Fab.

In order to finance these trips we have received support from 29 companies and hundreds of individuals from across the globe. To this date, we have successfully been able to raise approximately $30,000 independently. We are now beginning to plan our trip for the spring, and are very interested in adding a finance and investment component to our trip. We would love any assistance you can offer to us.

Please visit our website: eastcoasteconomics dot com if you want to read more about what we have accomplished in the past.

You can check us out on twitter @xterm2014

Thank you!

Sorry, there was a typo in the link. Try it again. Our website is actually run off of the app called Raffle Creator- which was developed by one of the current seniors in our group.

taipan, this is interesting stuff. I can imagine college kids doing this, but surprised to see high schoolers so active. Question for you: What is your ultimate objective from these visits? Are you trying to launch your own startup, learn about different career paths, etc. ?
