HL RX in MN-- Thoughts?
Honestly wouldn't mind being in MN to retire or whatever but it's obviously a big deal to not be in NYC/LA/CHI. Basically, is HLRX MN considered the shitty budget version of the monster NYC group or is it still really good?
Any ability to transfer? What are exit opps like (I'm sure they're decent but limited to MM or non-prestige MM generally) but is deal flow central only to this office (e.g. originated within MN office only) or is there any cross-work with other offices? Lateral opps? Any thoughts?

Yeah saw this and thought hmm might be a dream gig for those reasons actually, but would be cool to hear more about deal flow and lifestyle there and whether people sht on the MN aspect of it at all
I interviewed there. Analysts seem nice and I think they share the office with industrials. Ofc you’ll get good experience given the group. They told me they enjoy doing outdoors stuff during the summer but can’t exactly remember what but very fratty culture
Can't speak to deal flow but re: MN ... Why would they shit on the MN aspect? I'm from Minneapolis and yeah it's not NY/SF/CHI but still got things to do (pandemic aside)
I no longer live there, but the analysts I remember from HL, Piper, and Laz all enjoyed their time and found things to do outside the office. The outdoors scene really is huge. Hunting, biking, running, fishing, hiking, boating, etc - you will have something to do year round, MN people love being outside. Plus, there are a lot of solid bars throughout MPLS for younger professionals to go to (aka lots of college-aged girls go here).
The girl scene can be easy if you find a girl at the U or just hop on hinge - lots of beautiful, midwestern girls here with solid values. I will say that it most likely will be hard to find a core group of MN/midwest friends due to a lot of people having been friends for many years (middle school/high school/college). However, if you are able to connect with one guy who has a larger group of friends, I would be surprised if they didn't want to hang out with you. Just don't be a kook.
HLRX MN is solid since their rainmaker often stays between the LA and MN office. They have a laid back culture where analysts can wear jeans to work most of the time.
Its hard to transfer to different offices unless its to support a deal. E.g. someone from HL LA went to NY to help with a deal. Exit opps are not as great as their LA or NY office. I have personally seen a lot of ppl lateral to different banks.
