Houlihan HC Updates?

Was hoping someone had any feedback on the status of Houlihan's healthcare group (DAL/CHI offices). Most of the older posts were pretty negative for a variety of reasons. Has culture/hours improved at all? Any updates would be appreciated.

Houlihan Lokey's Healthcare Group, particularly in the Dallas and Chicago offices, has seen some updates worth noting:

  1. Dallas Office: The Dallas office remains a key hub for the healthcare group, with the group head and top rainmaker based there. While it was historically known for being "sweaty," there are indications that the culture has improved over time. However, it is still described as very busy with strong deal flow, which can lead to long hours and a demanding environment. The team is known for being lean, which contributes to the workload.

  2. Chicago Office: There isn't as much specific feedback on the Chicago office compared to Dallas, but it is part of the cross-staffing model Houlihan Lokey employs. This means that work is distributed across offices, and there isn't a strict "satellite" office dynamic.

  3. General Culture and Hours: The group is still considered "sweaty" by many, with high expectations and intense workloads. Sundays are often long workdays, and while Saturdays are protected, the overall environment can be challenging. Despite this, the group offers a strong learning experience and exposure to high-quality mandates, making it a valuable opportunity for those looking to build their careers in healthcare investment banking.

  4. Turnover: There is still notable turnover within the group, with some employees leaving within 12 months of joining. This is often attributed to the demanding nature of the work.

In summary, while there have been some improvements in culture, the group remains a high-intensity environment with significant learning opportunities. If you're considering joining, be prepared for the workload but also for the potential career growth it offers.

Update: we are closing a lot of deals but just like every year, senior guys tell us we are one bank and I’m sure we will be paid that way.

From a staffing perspective, we are working till 1-3am a lot given the deal flow. In Chicago, we had a VP start last year that drove our only female analyst to quit.  Other first years have quit quickly as well given the entire team is different from when they interned.

Politics are still the same where you need to be best buds with a higher up to advance. Otherwise you are overworked and treated like an animal
