How do you wake up?
Hi, I am starting SA soon and was wondering if you use any particular methods to wake up? Also I am checking if I have waking up problems or simply freak out without a reason.
Before undergrad I had no issues with mornings. It always took me 15 minutes of alarms, but I would wake up eventually.
In the last 6 months my morning routine deteriorated significantly. I sleep through numerous alarms, my phone is away from the bed. Nothing helps, I usually go back to sleep and wake up 1-2hrs later.
I suspect the reason might be the fact that nothing important, requiring time-keeping is happening in my life now, so it can be a natural response. I am able to wake up knowing that I have something important in the morning.
Nevertheless, my health has also deteriorated over a past few months due to back problems, very sedentary lifestyle, and occasional vaping (1/month).
Am I freaking out or I should be concerned? Any recommendations?

during college I used to sleep at 4am+ go to classes with 2-3 hours of sleep, drink etc.. once you start working within a week you'll be so tired that you will get used to sleeping early. Now assuming that you'll be doing banking, you'll just get used to it
I usually place my phone on the nightstand and wake up with a single alarm. Would recommend reading (from an actual book - no screens) for half an hour or so before bed. Makes you sleep like a baby.
I do this every single night. I read til I fall asleep with the book in my hand. Worst case I get to read for a while best case it’s a great way to wind down and I fall asleep quickly
Reading is the way. I used to get stuck on my phone scrolling for hours wondering why I couldn't fall asleep. I finally started to listen to Audiobooks to fall asleep to and now I just actually read. Mostly fiction but it helps to forget about the other parts of your day.
hard. Hope this helps. Kind regards
My ringtone is “gunshot sound effect” and that works well. Best regards
This would end me. I just know it would be an instant stroke. So why am I curious to try it? We all know what happened to the cat.
You have to do the one that is repetitive because the single shot one doesn’t do it for me
Do you sleep through them by waking up and clicking snooze/turning them off then going back to sleep or do you actually just sleep straight through the sound
I wake up, turn them off and return to my bed. Afterwards I do not remember the fact I did it
I had this problem. I set consecutive alarms with like 5 minute increments on my phone. Also set another physical alarm if needed. Then I put the alarms in locations in my room where I physically need to get up and find them and look at them to turn them off.
Morning wood wakes me up pretty consistently
I’m ngl you just have to lock in. Hope this helps
Usually the crippling anxiety and overarching feeling that I’ll never be good enough helps
This guy knows the way
force yourself to trudge over to the bathroom and take a cold shower, you'll wake right up. That and/or pop a IR adderral, have a glass of water and pill ready to go on your nightstand. If you don't want to go that route then maybe get a sunrise alarm clock, might help a bit
I had the same problem. I got you.
Download an app called Alarmy. It makes a super a loud, obnoxious rings and doesn’t turn off until you answer math questions or solve some little memorization puzzles.
It’s completely free, and saved me during an internship last summer.

It's just one of those days, when you don't want to wake up. Everything is fucked. Everybody sucks.

Use my iPhone alarm but paranoid that one day my phone won’t work cus it’ll be updating overnight or charging will stop overnight and the phone will die. I’ll prolly get a physical alarm clock to supplement it soon
In cases like this it helps to have a physical alarm clock for redundancy
My buddy had the same problem. Legitimately has this bracelet that shocks him to wake up. I tried it in the office once, pretty crazy. Seems medieval but he swears by it, has never had the issue since (obviously).
I use one of those, it's legit
After a week on the desk ur stress and anxiety will take care of it for u. I used to get nightmares of missing my VP’s email cuz I was asleep during my internship
Maybe because of winter.
I have an app called Alarmy that you can set so it makes you take a photo of something in order to turn it off. I set it to something in my bathroom that I have to turn the lights on to see. By time I get in there and get it off with the lights on, I'm at least a little awake and I force myself to brush my teeth before I leave the bathroom. By then I'm usually sufficiently awake to not accidentally lay down again or hit the snooze button.
Warning that about once a month the alarm randomly will activate at the set time but no sound goes off, so always set a back up alarm with a different app just in case.
start day drinking, and once u get addicted enough, install a mini fridge in the other side of your bedroom filled with your favorite beers. you won’t need an alarm anymore I guarantee it.
5 alarms all split across a 10 minute span. Usually up by the 1st or 2nd alarm.
