How involved are MD’s during a summer internship?

Currently interning at a Euro BB within IB and have noticed that my MD is not really too involved in day to day work. I’m not surprised given that they must be extremely busy to care about interns, but I was curious about what the sweet spot is for keeping in touch with them in this virtual environment since their word holds a lot of weight. Not tryna be an annoying intern, but also don’t want to leave him in the dark. Would appreciate some advice on this. Thanks!

What is your day to day work? If you're on actual projects, email the analyst to ask about helping out.

Don't ask your MD for work, it comes off as too pushy in the virtual setting when they've never met you. There's not really any sweet spot when you're only on the job for a few weeks. You can definitely ask them for a quick networking call to learn more about their role.

Honestly though the MD isn't sitting there waiting for you to contact him - unless you do a lot of work with an MD on a live deal or seriously mess up on something, they really won't know who you are when time comes to look at return offers.

Agree with the other poster - weekly is too much. Do one networking call a few weeks in, otherwise no contact.

Not trying to be harsh, MDs just have way too many other things going on to really get involved with a virtual internship
